Benefits and Retirement

Please note this is a summary of highlights of benefits, especially benefits that are frequent subjects of questions. For full information refer to the CBA or contact the Union.

Medical

Annual premium increases are limited to 10%. Even with the recent switch from Cigna to Aetna, Adelphi is required to maintain at least the same level of benefits.

Received a medical bill that seems too large? Contact HR and ask them to investigate. You may CC a Union rep. In particular, faculty on HDHP plans may benefit from closely watching their bills and contesting.

Adjunct faculty may buy into health insurance at full cost.

Retirement

Full-time employees making minimum contributions to their 403B receive a University contribution that increases over time. This benefit can begin after two years of service.

First 2 years receiving contribution (i.e. years 3 and 4 at Adelphi at the earliest): 7.5% University contribution with minimum 4.5% employee contribution

Years 3 - 6: 8.5% with minimum 3.5% employee contribution

Years 7 - 20: 9.5% with minimum 2.5% employee contribution

Years greater than 20: 11.5% with minimum 3.5% employee contribution

Full-time faculty retiring after 10+ years service are eligible for a retirement package, and to teach as a senior adjunct if mutually agreed. Retirement package size not guaranteed in CBA but in most cases, tenured faculty receive one semester of pay (as lump sum or by remaining on payroll with benefits) and non-tenure track faculty receive $2000 per year of service. Contact the Union for help with specifics.
